Day 10: Third podium and a place in the semifinal

Pole position, a third place and a messy race in the rain closed out qualifying. The results were enough — I go through to the semifinal in 37th, among the last 48.

A second place in the race that got an extra lap and a fourth despite engine trouble — my best day of the Worlds yet, and my first time inside the semifinal cut.

Schedule

  1. 22 JulyChampionship week beginsThe 20th edition of the Kart World Championship opens at Vandel Kart
  2. 25–26 JulyNations CupThe team event, Rickard races for Sweden
  3. 28 July–1 AugustKWC IndividualThe individual world championship: qualifying heats, semifinal and final

How the format works

8qualifying heats
1semifinal
18finalists

Everyone races equal equipment in the same weight class, and karts are drawn by lot between heats. Each driver runs 8 qualifying heats, one result is dropped, before the semifinal decides which 18 drivers contest the final.

That adds up to 10 races in a week. The championship goes to whoever collects the most points across the entire event. It rewards consistency and the ability to deliver in every race, not one-off results.

Two championships in one week

KWC Individual

The individual world championship, 28 July–1 August. 180 drivers, a field where every heat counts. Rickard's best Worlds result: 3rd of 102 (2016).

Nations Cup

The team event where drivers represent their country, 25–26 July. Every result counts toward the nation's total. Rickard has raced the Nations Cup at every Worlds he has entered: fifth in 2015–2017 and sixth in 2018, and 14th of 32 nations in 2026.

The track: Vandel Kart

Vandel Kart is located in the Billund area in Jutland, Denmark, and hosted the 20th edition of the Kart World Championship. Racing alternated between two track layouts, VG Classic and VG New 23, across the week.
